Delhi Metro Independence Day advisory for August 15 with a decorated metro train and Lal Quila

Delhi Metro has issued a special advisory for August 15, which includes morning service timings, train frequency, QR tickets, security checks and travel arrangements for Independence Day.

Delhi Metro services were operated with special arrangements on August 15, 2026, to facilitate the movement of passengers and the general public, as well as guests attending the Independence Day celebrations at the Lal Quila. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) resumed service on all lines ahead of the regular schedule.

Delhi Metro Timings on August 15

According to a DMRC advisory, Delhi Metro services resumed at 4:00 AM from all terminal stations on Independence Day. This early morning arrangement was made to facilitate commuters heading to the Lal Quila for the national celebrations.

Metro trains operated at a frequency of 30 minutes until 6:00 AM. After 6:00 AM, services were scheduled to operate as per the regular timetable for the rest of the day.

Special Travel Arrangements

Special travel arrangements were made for those attending the Independence Day celebrations at the Lal Quila. The Delhi Metro stations closest to the venue are Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Gate. Passengers traveling to the Lal Quila were advised to be aware of increased security checks and potential crowds around stations leading to the celebration area.

Special QR Tickets

People holding a bona fide invitation card issued by the Ministry of Defence for the Independence Day ceremony were eligible for special QR tickets for travel to and from the venue.

The cost of travel under this special arrangement was to be reimbursed to DMRC by the Ministry of Defence. Similar special QR-ticket arrangements have been used for Independence Day travel to facilitate movement of official invitees.

Delhi Metro Travel During Independence Day Celebrations

The primary purpose of running the metro early in the morning was to provide a convenient public transport option to people attending the Independence Day celebrations. This arrangement also helped commuters avoid road restrictions and traffic diversions imposed around Central Delhi during the celebrations.

With tight security arrangements in place at the Lal Quila and surrounding areas, commuters were advised to follow the instructions provided by the DMRC and security agencies while entering and exiting metro stations.

QR Ticket Rules for August 15

QR-based tickets were used as part of the special travel arrangements for eligible Independence Day invitees. Regular passengers could continue using the available Delhi Metro ticketing options applicable to their journey.

Passengers using QR tickets should keep the ticket available on their mobile device and follow the instructions displayed at the automatic fare collection gates for entry and exit.

Passenger Guidelines

  • Reach the station with sufficient time because security checks may take longer than usual.
  • Follow instructions from DMRC, CISF and other security personnel.
  • Keep valid tickets or QR tickets ready before reaching the entry gates.
  • Passengers travelling towards the Lal Quila should check the latest station and traffic advisories before starting their journey.
  • Expect higher passenger movement around stations close to the Independence Day ceremony venue.
