Delhi Metro Golden Line Stretch to Open in December 2026

Delhi Metro Golden Line construction work is progressing rapidly. The 23.6-kilometer corridor between Delhi Aerocity and Tughlakabad will connect 15 stations. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), more than 83 percent of the civil work has been completed, while the Tughlakabad-Sangam Vihar section is targeted to become operational by December 2026.

23.6 KM Corridor on the Delhi Metro Golden Line

According to official DMRC documents, the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor is 23.622 kilometers long. It will have 11 underground stations and 4 elevated stations. This corridor is being developed under Delhi Metro Phase 4.

15 Metro Stations on the Golden Line

The following 15 stations are proposed on the Golden Line from Aerocity to Tughlakabad:

Tughlakabad-Sangam Vihar Section by December 2026

The approximately 8.4-kilometer section of the Golden Line from Tughlakabad to Sangam Vihar is planned to be operational first. This section will have four stations—Tughlakabad, Tughlakabad Railway Colony, Anandmayi Marg Junction, and Sangam Vihar. The first three stations will be underground, while Sangam Vihar station will be elevated.

Interchange with the Violet Line at Tughlakabad

The Tughlakabad station will facilitate an interchange between the Golden Line and the existing Violet Line. This will provide a new connection for passengers traveling towards Faridabad, Badarpur, and South Delhi.

Double-Decker Section between Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar

A double-decker section of approximately 2.4 kilometers is being constructed between Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar on the Golden Line. Road traffic will be on the lower level, while the metro tracks will be on the upper level.

Connection to the Airport Express Line at Aerocity

The Golden Line will have an interchange with the Airport Express Line at Delhi Aerocity station. This will provide an additional connection to the metro network between South Delhi and the airport area.

Proposed Extensions of the Golden Line

In addition to the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor, several other extensions of the Golden Line are also proposed. These are planned to bring the total network length to approximately 38.2 kilometers.

• Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block: Approximately 8.3 kilometers
• Aerocity-IGI Terminal 1: Approximately 2.2 kilometers
• Kalindi Kunj-Tughlakabad: Approximately 3.9 kilometers

Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block Branch Line

Eight stations are proposed along the approximately 8.3-kilometer section from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block. Lajpat Nagar will provide interchange with the Violet and Pink lines, while Chirag Delhi station will connect to the Magenta Line. Three-coach trains are planned to operate on this corridor.

Construction Status According to DMRC

According to DMRC, more than 83 percent of civil work on the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor has been completed. Tunneling has been completed, and track laying, overhead electrification, and signaling are now underway.

According to Anuj Dayal, Executive Director, Head of Corporate Communications, DMRC, the Tughlakabad-Sangam Vihar section is targeted to be operational by December 2026. The remaining sections will be commissioned in a phased manner after the completion of related construction and system work.
