Delhi Metro Among World’s Top Five Metro Systems
Delhi Metro records 99.95% punctuality in 2026, ranking among the world’s top five most reliable metro systems in international benchmarking.
The Delhi Metro has earned worldwide recognition for its punctuality and reliability. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the network has recorded 99.95% train punctuality so far in 2026, making it among the top five most reliable metro systems in the world.
Delhi Metro's Punctuality Reaches 99.95%
According to DMRC, the Delhi Metro achieved 99.95% train punctuality in 2026 so far. The system considers a train delayed when it reaches its destination station more than 59 seconds behind schedule.
The performance has placed Delhi Metro ahead of major metro systems in Hong Kong, Paris and New York in the international comparison.
Improved Punctuality Over the Years
The Delhi Metro's punctuality has steadily improved over the years. Its punctuality increased from 98.27% in 2003 to 99.64% in 2005. Even after the expansion of the network and the reduction of train intervals on busy corridors, performance remained above 99.9%.
CBTC and ATS Support Train Operations
The Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) system also plays a vital role in the smooth operation of the Delhi Metro. This technology provides real-time information on train position and speed, contributing to safe train operations.
In addition, Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) monitors the entire network. This helps control train operations, maintain punctuality, and increase network efficiency.
