Pune Metro frequency to increase during Ganeshotsav
During Ganeshotsav, the Pune Metro will run trains every 5 minutes during peak hours. In view of the increasing passenger rush, the frequency will be increased on both the major corridors.
In view of the increased passenger rush during Ganeshotsav, Pune Metro has decided to increase the frequency of train services on both its operational corridors. Pune Metro trains are now set to run every 5 minutes during peak hours instead of the current 6-minute interval.
This change will be implemented on the PCMC–Swargate and Vanaz–Ramwadi metro corridors. According to Pune Metro, a trial run is underway to increase train frequency to accommodate rising passenger numbers during peak hours. This arrangement will be implemented during Ganeshotsav and may be continued thereafter as needed.
Pune Metro to run every 5 minutes during Ganeshotsav
Currently, trains run every 6 minutes during peak hours on both operational lines of the Pune Metro. Due to the increased passenger traffic during Ganeshotsav, this interval will be reduced to 5 minutes. This will reduce the waiting time for passengers during peak hours.
Pune Metro Public Relations Officer Chandrashekhar Tambwekar stated that trial runs are underway to increase train frequency on both routes. He added that metro footfall is steadily increasing during peak hours, and that the immediate plan is to run trains every 5 minutes.
Which Pune Metro routes will see increased train frequency
PCMC–Swargate Metro Corridor
The Pune Metro's PCMC–Swargate corridor is 17.5 kilometers long and has 14 stations. The journey time from one end of this route to the other is approximately 34 minutes. During Ganeshotsav, trains are also planned to run every 5 minutes on this corridor during peak hours.
Vanaz–Ramwadi Metro Corridor
The Vanaz–Ramwadi corridor is 14.5 kilometers long and has 16 stations. The entire journey on this route takes approximately 37 minutes. Like the PCMC–Swargate corridor, train frequency on this route is also planned to be reduced to 5 minutes during peak hours.
Pune Metro Operational Schedule
Services on both currently operational corridors of the Pune Metro operate from 6 AM to 11 PM. Trains operate at 6-minute intervals during normal peak hours and 10-minute intervals during other operating hours. During Ganeshotsav, a 5-minute interval will be implemented during peak hours.
Six-coach metro in preparation to meet rising ridership
With the expansion of the Pune Metro network, passenger numbers are expected to increase. In response, Pune Metro has begun replacing existing three-coach trains with six-coach trains.
According to Pune Metro, stations have been developed with six-coach trains in mind. Once the necessary changes are made to the signaling system to accommodate six-coach trains, their introduction into operation will be easier.
Pune Metro major preparations for Ganeshotsav
- Train frequency during peak hours will be reduced from 6 minutes to 5 minutes.
- This arrangement will apply to both the PCMC–Swargate and Vanaz–Ramwadi corridors.
- All 33 three-coach rakes are planned to be put into operation.
- Seventeen rakes are planned on the Vanaz–Ramwadi and 16 on the PCMC–Swargate corridors.
- Currently, approximately 554 daily trips operate on both corridors, which will be increased.
- During non-peak hours, trains will run at 10-minute intervals.
- Special crowd-management arrangements are in place in view of the expected heavy rush at Mandai station.
- Using nearby alternative metro stations may be recommended to reduce passenger congestion.
