Noida Sector 51-52 Metro Skywalk Opens
Noida Sector 51-52 AC metro skywalk has opened, connecting the Aqua Line and Blue Line with a 460-metre covered walkway, travelators and improved commuter convenience.
Noida commuters have received a major relief with the opening of the long-awaited air-conditioned skywalk connecting Sector 51 and Sector 52 metro stations. This facility connects the Noida Metro Aqua Line in Sector 51 with the Delhi Metro Blue Line in Sector 52, providing a safer and more convenient interchange for commuters.
The skywalk was opened to the public on Raksha Bandhan, August 28, without any formal inauguration, so that passengers could immediately use the facility. Over 45,000 passengers used the skywalk on the first day, reinforcing the demand for a direct connection between the two metro stations.
460-Meter Air-Conditioned Skywalk
The skywalk is approximately 460 meters long and six meters wide. It has 10 travelators to facilitate passenger transfers and is equipped with features such as air-conditioning, CCTV cameras, and a fire-safety system. The journey between Sector 51 and Sector 52 metro stations can now be completed in approximately five minutes.
Before the skywalk opened, passengers transferring between the Aqua Line and Blue Line had to bypass the metro station and navigate busy roads, traffic, autorickshaws, and e-rickshaws. The new covered connection is expected to make interchange especially convenient during monsoon and peak traffic hours.
The project has been delayed several times
Construction of the skywalk began in March 2023 and was targeted to be completed within a year. However, numerous technical and regulatory challenges delayed the project and caused several deadlines to be missed. During construction, an underground metro cable was discovered, necessitating changes to the structural design. Other problems, including an obstruction near the station entrance, also necessitated modifications.
The project was initially estimated to cost around ₹25 crore, but the cost eventually increased to approximately ₹33 crore following design changes and delays.
With the opening of the skywalk, passengers travelling between the Aqua Line and Blue Line can transfer without crossing the busy roads between Sector 51 and Sector 52, improving connectivity between Noida and the wider Delhi-NCR Metro network.
