Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRCL) conducted the first successful trial run through the westbound tunnel of the Kolkata Metro's Green Line in West Bengal, India, on the Sealdah-Esplanade section, which has only one station, Bowbazar. Once operational, the Sealdah-Esplanade section is expected to provide an advanced transport system for the people of Kolkata and its suburbs. It helps people to reach Kolkata and surrounding areas from Sealdah and Howrah.
◷ 2025-01-22 | ☍Hindustan SamacharHyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) on Sunday, January 19 announced the route map for the second phase of the metro extension. This new route will connect Miyapur to Patancheru, covering a distance of 13.4 km and includes ten proposed stations including Patancheru, Miyapur, Alwyn X Road, Madinaguda, Chanda Nagar, Jyothi Nagar, BHEL, RC Puram and Beeramguda. However, these station names are tentative and are subject to change.
◷ 2025-01-19 | ☍JagranCommunication-based train control signalling work for the entire Howrah Maidan to Sector V section of Kolkata Metro's East-West Metro began on 12 January 2025, a landmark step towards connecting Howrah to Sealdah, two of the busiest stations of Eastern Railway. The East-West Metro, also known as the Green Line, will save around 90 minutes for daily commuters.
◷ 2025-01-16 | ☍Indian ExpressThe Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has planned to use artificial intelligence (AI) and drones to monitor the safety of concrete structures, including bridges and pillars. Drones equipped with high-resolution camera equipment will collect data on structural conditions. The AI tools will analyse the data to detect problems such as cracks, deterioration or honeycomb patterns in the concrete.
◷ 2025-01-15 | ☍Money ControlIndustries Minister P. Rajeev flagged off Kochi Metro's electric feeder buses Metro Connect. Of the 15 buses, four will ply on the Aluva-Airport route, running every 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during off-peak hours from 6:45 am to 11 pm. The fare for a journey up to 5 km in regular AC feeder buses is ₹20, while the same buses with relatively larger seats will cost ₹80 for travelling in the longer Aluva-International Airport corridor.
◷ 2025-01-10 | ☍The HinduBengaluru's Namma Metro may increase its fares by 40-45%. This has been done following the recommendations of a three-member government panel. The current fare is Rs 60, and the base fare will increase to around Rs 15. At the same time, the maximum fare will be around Rs 85.
◷ 2025-01-07 | ☍News 24 OnlinePrime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sahibabad-New Ashok Nagar section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail. High-speed trains will run on the 55 km long Namo Bharat Corridor with 11 stations. Train service will be available every 15 minutes, connecting Meerut and Delhi directly. The journey from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South will take only 40 minutes.
◷ 2025-01-06 | ☍NDTVPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (January 5, 2024) inaugurated the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section of the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro and laid the foundation stone of the Rithala-Narela-Kundli corridor. The Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section is the first section of the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro to be inaugurated.
◷ 2025-01-06 | ☍The HinduThe first driverless train manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) on the Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro is expected to arrive by January 6, 2025. This 18 km long line will run from RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronic City.
◷ 2025-01-02 | ☍Money ControlChief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has decided to extend the Hyderabad Metro Rail to Medchal and Shamirpet. Under this, approval has been given to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for Paradise-Medchal (23 km) and JBS-Shamirpet (22 km) metro corridors.
◷ 2025-01-02 | ☍TelanganaTodayBangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced extended metro services on Purple and Green lines on New Year's Eve. On January 1, 2024, the last metro will leave from all terminal stations at 2:00 am, while the last train from Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Metro Station (Majestic) will leave at 2:40 am. From 11:00 pm on December 31 till the extended service ends, trains will be available every 10 minutes. However, to manage the crowd at MG Road metro station, it will be closed for entry and exit after 11:00 pm. For the convenience of passengers, passengers departing from Trinity or Cubbon Park metro stations can buy paper tickets for the return journey for Rs 50. These tickets will be available in advance at all metro stations from 8:00 am on December 31, 2024. Also, regular QR code tickets and smart cards will also be valid for travel from these stations.
◷ 2024-12-30 | ☍Hindustan timesPrime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro line under the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro on December 28. The new metro line will include 10 stations in Delhi and 2 stations in Haryana. This metro line will significantly reduce travel time and reduce congestion for passengers traveling between Delhi and Haryana.
◷ 2024-12-26 | ☍India TodayKolkata Metro has extended night services for Christmas night (December 25). The last train from New Garia to Dum Dum (Blue Line) will run at 11 pm instead of 10 pm to facilitate people travelling towards Park Street. The last train from Dakshineswar will leave for New Garia at 10.53 pm. Services will run at an interval of 7 minutes from 3 pm to 8 pm. On December 25, the Metro will operate a total of 224 services (112 up and 112 down) throughout the day, starting at 6.50 am.
◷ 2024-12-24 | ☍NDTVThe Delhi Metro Phase 4 extension also includes the Magenta Line Extension, a key step in expanding the metro network in the city. The new section of the Magenta Line is being extended to Majlis Park (in northwest Delhi), which will enhance metro connectivity to areas such as Pitampura and Haiderpur.
◷ 2024-12-23 | ☍Republic WorldKolkata Metro services on the Dakshineswar-New Garia corridor were partially disrupted after a man jumped in front of a train at Sovabazar station. Services were delayed by 35 minutes but resumed normal operations by 4:45 pm.
◷ 2024-12-23 | ☍JagranMumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line is the first fully underground metro corridor in Mumbai that will be fully functional by May 2025. Spread over three phases, this underground metro corridor will connect major locations including Aarey, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Worli and Colaba. The first phase is operational from October 2024, the remaining phases are progressing rapidly and are expected to be completed by May 2025.
◷ 2024-12-23 | ☍Republic WorldThe second phase of the Nagpur Metro Rail Project will receive a total funding of Rs 3,586 crore from ADB and European Investment Bank (EIB). Of this, Rs 1,527 crore will be provided by ADB, for which the agreement was signed on Tuesday. The Nagpur Metro Rail Project Phase-II will cover a total distance of 43.8 km, consisting of four routes.
