Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML) operated a total of nine services on two new routes from Sunday. The Finance Budget 2024-25 presented by Minister KN Balagopal has announced an allocation of Rs 239 crore for the ongoing development works of Kochi Metro. DMRC According to (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation), the DPR (detailed project document) of the Kochi Metro extended metro project is in the final stages of preparation. According to a release, Infopark and Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create an IT workplace at the Kochi Metro station in Ernakulam South. Kochi: The trial run of the first phase of Kochi Metro has started till the terminal station Tripunithura. The trial run started at SN Junction metro station at 11.30 pm on 7th December. The first trial run started at 1.30 am on the 8th. The first phase of testing was conducted at SN Junction – Thripunithura area at low speed and no loading. Students going to school, college and other educational institutions will benefit from this pass. 'Vidya 1' is a one day pass. It can be bought for Rs.50. While 'Vidya 30' and 'Vidya 45' released in 30 days and 45 days respectively. Both can be bought for Rs.900 and Rs.495 respectively.
The Kochi Metro has launched a new travel card exclusively for students. The card named ‘VIDYA 45’ could be used for up to fifty trips in 45 days. The students could travel to any destination using this card. The card could be purchased for Rs 495 which means that a single trip would cost just under Rs 10. Meanwhile, the students can buy the card from any metro station by showing their identity cards issued by the respective institutions.
Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is getting ready to take delivery of 100 e-autos christened ‘Commuto’ to operate feeder services from metro stations, just a handful of women have volunteered to drive 32 autos from among them, although the help of NGOs, cooperative societies, and Kudumbashree were sought for the purpose.
The managing director of KMRL, Loknath Behera, has revealed plans to establish solar parks in Alappuzha and Kasaragod. The aim is to generate 100 per cent of the required power from solar energy. The Kochi Metro requires a total of 20 (mega-watt) MW of energy to function.
