Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line is the first fully underground metro corridor in Mumbai that will be fully functional by May 2025. Spread over three phases, this underground metro corridor will connect major locations including Aarey, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Worli and Colaba. The first phase is operational from October 2024, the remaining phases are progressing rapidly and are expected to be completed by May 2025.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) plans to start operations on the second phase of the Metro 3 Aqua Line between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Cuffe Parade by May 2025. Metro 3 is a 33.5 km long underground corridor running from Colaba to Seepz, with 27 stations, of which 26 are underground and one is at grade.
MMMOCL has identified about 72,000 sq ft of available space at around 30 stations on these metro lines. By leasing out these spaces, which include areas such as D.N. Nagar (17,079 sq ft), Lower Oshivar (2,783 sq ft), Valanai (2,853 sq ft) and Anandanagar (3,053 sq ft), the corporation aims to generate a monthly rental income of around Rs 1.15 crore.
Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth on Monday flagged off a train manufactured by BEML for the Mumbai Metro network in Bengaluru, the 55th train for Lines 2 and 7 of the Mumbai Metro. It can carry 2,306 passengers with a seating capacity of 298. A news release issued by BEML said it has bagged the order for design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning and training of 96 trainsets for Rs 4,319 crore.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) is initiating efforts to rent out vacant spaces at metro stations. The initiative aims to generate substantial revenue from stations located on the Metro 2A (D.N. Nagar to Dahisar East) and Metro 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East) routes.

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) began the integrated trial of underground Metro Line-3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ) Phase 1 on March 12. This service will be made available to passengers after MMRCL gets approval from the Commissioner. After the trials are run, officials need to obtain certification from the individual system and Independent Safety Assessor (ISA). Then, the system will be presented to the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) for inspection and approval.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday laid the foundation stone of Mumbai Metro Line-12 (Kalyan-Taloja) at the Premier Ground in Dombivali. Kalyan–Taloja section (Line-12) is an extension of Mumbai Metro Line 5, Orange Line. The extension will reduce travel time between Kalyan-Dombivli and Navi Mumbai.
The 22.173-kilometre stretch will have 19 elevated stations. The estimated cost of the completion of the project is around Rs 5,865 crore. The project is estimated to be complete by December 2027. According to an Indian Express report, the integration of Metro Line-12 with Navi Mumbai Metro Line is also proposed at Navi Mumbai Metro station to ensure smooth connectivity between Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli.

Mumbai's eagerly awaited underground metro Line 3, passing through the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz route, is set to be partially completed by the middle of this year. A detailed project report (DPR) for the extension of Metro 3 underground corridor up to Navy Nagar, Colaba has been finalized by the implementing authority Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC). The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has merged the monorail project implementation unit with the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation to revive the struggling Mumbai Monorail. The merger aims to improve operations, cut costs and save expenses. The move is expected to save over ₹40 to 60 crore annually and reduce duplication of manpower.

Last month, the launch of Navi Mumbai Metro service, which has been waiting for 12 years, has received a good response from the passengers. More than 4.30 lakh passengers have used this service in just one month. Navi Mumbai generated ₹1.16 crore from ticket sales, Hindustan Times reported, adding that families are flocking to urban areas of the service to take advantage of it, especially during holidays.
Mumbai’s first underground Metro Aqua Line 3 is expected to start by 2024 connecting Colaba to Bandra and SEEPZ Village. The 33.5-km corridor from Colaba to Seepz via BKC is among the city’s big-ticket infrastructure projects and has suffered long delays.
The 1,800 mm Veravali pipeline was punctured at Andheri Seepage Gate No. 3 on Thursday during drilling work on Mumbai Metro 6 line. This resulted in closure of water supply to most parts of Andheri East and West and Bandra East and West. Other parts of the city also faced some water shortage. BMC had started repairing the pipeline on Friday, which was to be completed by Sunday afternoon.
The entire 33.5 km network of Aqua Line 3, Mumbai's first underground metro, is expected to be operational within 2024. While substantial work on Phase 1 between Aarey and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) will be completed in December, it will be subject to extensive trials and the section is likely to be opened for public use in early 2024.
