The Pols, India
Almost 360 pols within a compound are an exceptional feature of the old walled city in Ahmedabad, where tourists can enjoy morning heritage walk. Many of the pols were built between 100 to 300 years ago and the oldest one was being aptly titled ‘Mahurat Pol’. Built adjacent to Manekchowk most of the multi-story houses here are in steps, to provide a greater shelter area for the cattle to rest on during the rains or the scorching heat. Some pols contain old beautiful houses with internal courts having intricate wooden carved facades with columns and fresco work done around court walls or ceilings and a fascinating underground Jain temple.

Adalaj Step Well, India
Adalaj Step Well is an excellent example of Indo-Islamic architecture exhibiting a mélange of Hindu craftsmanship and the geometric pattern of Islamic architecture with exquisite stone carving and embellishments. It was built in 1498 in sandstone in the famous Solanki architectural style. Adalaj stepwell is five stories deep, octagonal at the top, built on a beautifully carved large number of pillars. There are a series of platforms and galleries built on the side of the stepwell. Flight of the steps leading to the circular tank, entrance pavilion at the ground level, and well at the lowest level. Every floor is spacious and offers ample space for people to congregate.

An outstanding war memorial, located at the heart of India's capital city, New Delhi, is a war memorial dedicated to honoring the soldiers of the Undivided Indian Army who died during World War I between 1914 and 1921. The triumphal arch of India Gate is designed by notable Edwin Lutyens. Agrasen Ki Baoli, India
Aagrasen Ki Baoli is a monument of a lot of historical significance. It is found at Halley Road in the capital city of India. It is a very old water reservoir that mounts from the deepness of the earth and rises to approximately 104 steps. The place is in the middle of the residential and business complexes of central Delhi and it is a calm and peaceful place and is an ideal spot for photography lovers. The ancient brick walls take you in the bygone era and as you climb down the steps, a sudden drop in the temperature can be felt. It is a sheltered monument and falls under the Archaeological Sites Act, 1958. Agrasen Ki Baoli is 60 meters long and 15 meters wide and it is believed to be built during the time of Mahabharata. The place became popular after Raju Hirani's film PK was shot here.

Jantar Mantar, India
Jantar Mantar was constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh in the year 1724. He built other observatories in the cities of Ujjain, Mathura, and Varanasi. Raja Jai Singh found the astronomical instruments very tiny to take the exact measurements and for this reason, he made these over-sized and more precise instruments. The instruments present in this historical building are fascinating for their originality, but correct observations cannot be gathered because of the obstruction caused by tall buildings all over. Valluvar Kottam, India
An architectural marvel erected to commemorate the contributions of a distinguished poet, philosopher and saint Thiruvalluvar. Built under the aegis of architect V.Ganapati Sthapati the monument is designed in the shape of a temple chariot housing the life-size effigy of saint Thiruvalluvar. The monument is built of 3000 blocks of stones and stands baseless. It houses a capacious auditorium and the Kural Manimandapam, where 1330 verses of Thirukkural are inscribed. The figurine of a lion on the main gateway is adorned with splendid designs and the entire chariot is decorated with very famous as Kalamkari designs.

Mattancherry Palace, India
This is a Portuguese Palace that was actually gifted by the Portuguese to the King of Cochin way back in 1545. It contains portraits that exhibits, the Rajas of Kochi. This palace has been included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is quadrangular in shape and demonstrates Nalukettu style of architecture. There are several murals in the palace and they depict the finest example of Hindu temple art. The murals are painted in warm hues using the tempera technique. British Residency, India
As is evident from the name the building was once the residence of the British Resident General who was a representative in the court of Nawab. Now the group of buildings overlooking the Gomti river is a government office, a heritage site, and a popular tourist landmark. The building earned significance during the seize of Lucknow, held when the first revolt 1857 was staged in India. It served as the warehouse of those "wretched cartridges". Once a magnificent three-story building it had a library, offices, residential quarter, armory, worship places, stables, dispensaries, games room, etc. The large hallways have high ceilings with arches bearing intricate detailings. A beautiful fountain at the entrance amidst the lawns adds to the grandeur.

Rumi Darwaza, India
The magnificent sixty feet tall gateway located between the Bara Imambara and Chota Imambara used to serve as an entrance to Old Lucknow City. Also known a the Turkish gate it bears a strong resemblance to Bab-i-Humayun, a gateway in Turkey. Standing at an impressive height of 60ft, it is made of brick coated with limestone. It remains ornate with beautiful carvings and designs. Legend says the monument's umbrella-like structure housed a lantern that used to be lit at night with the jets of water flowing from its arch. Rumi Darwaza has been adopted as a symbol of Lucknow and is bound to enchant everyone with its grandeur.

Located on the banks of River Gomti, the two-story building exhibits a unique blend of European and nawabi architecture. The building is currently owned by Central Drug Research Institute though it was originally built by General Claud Martin as his residence in 1781. It has gilded umbrella on the dome and it is popularly called the umbrella palace. Constantia House is located on the premises of the famous La Martiniere Boys College, in Lucknow. The construction of this yellow sandstone building was initiated by a French Major-General Claude Martin, in 1785. Satkhanda, India
Located near the Chota Imambara the construction of this red brick, 35 feet architectural marvel was initiated drawing inspiration from the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Satkhanda or the seven-story was originally intended to be a seven-storied building, but could not be built beyond the 4 stories after the death of Nawab Muhamad Ali Shah. It is a tall watchtower with a blend of different architectural styles. The ground floor is around 10 feet tall and the successive stories are in decreasing order of height and breadth. They remain interconnected by a flight of stairs. A magnificent view of the city can be captured from the top story.

Charbagh Railway Station, India
Charbagh literally refers to four gardens which once existed in the area. The majestic and aesthetically designed building gives a glimpse of the rich Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The premises of the station are so constructed that the sound of the trains cannot be heard outside. The premises originally belonged to an orchard that was converted into a railway station in 1867. The impressive construction of the building gives a feel of a chessboard with domes and buildings resembling the pieces of chess in the aerial view. It remains a hot spot of activity throughout the year and is equipped with modern-day facilities.

Zero Mile Marker, India
It is a monument erected by the British during the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India in 1907. Located in the southeast direction to Vidhya Bhawan the Zero Mile Maker indicates the geographical center of India. This became the benchmark and the point was used to measure all distances. The monument consists of the main pillar made of sandstone, another small stone depicting the GTS Standard Benchmark, and four horses that were added later. The height of the main pillar is 1020.171 feet above the sea level. Located at the center of the country, the British intended to make Nagpur the second capital city.

Deekshabhoomi, India

Shinde Chhatri, India
Shinde Chhatri is a monument devoted to the 18th century commandant Shri Mahadji Shinde. He served the Peshwas in the late 18th century. It is located in Wanwadi area of Pune. It is found close to the old Shiva Temple that is done up in Anglo- Rajasthani design with carvings on yellow and black stone. The center of the hall is the cremation ground of the Mahadji Shinde, who was cremated in 1794 CE. The cheif segment is sheltered in a 15 feet high strong fortifications and has intricate structural design. The Shinde chhatri was built keeping the Vaasthu principles in mind.
