About Belapur Fort
The Belapur Fort in Mumbai was built in the 16th century. The Siddhi tribals built it as a defensive fort to protect their community interests. It is an important fort in the colonial period and the history of the Maratha Empire. It is well surrounded by sea rocks and estuary sands.
It is a great place to see its architecture and history. It is well maintained by the Department of Archeology and preserves it as a heritage monument in Maharashtra. It attracts tourists from everywhere.
Architecture of Belapur Fort
This fort is completely made of granite blocks and limestone. It has many artillery holes and gap mounds which are very beautifully designed. The Gateway of the fort is an arched gateway made of huge stone blocks. It has very nice curved bastions to support its walls. Its doors and pillars are designed in the Indian traditional style of construction.

- The fort was conquered thrice by the Dutch, the Marathas and the British East India Company.

- Intricate carvings have been done on the walls of the fort which depict some meaningful messages.
- The fort comes under the jurisdiction of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
- Many benches have been set up by the local people and there are also many play equipments for the children.
