About Moti Masjid

Moti Masjid is the largest mosque in Central India and is also very old. This famous mosque was built by Sikandar Jahan Begum of Bhopal, daughter of Qudusiya Begum, in the year 1860. The architecture of Moti Masjid is very similar to that of Jama Masjid in Delhi, although it is relatively smaller in size. The Moti Masjid is surrounded by two beautiful dark red towers or domes with gold spikes.

Architecture of Moti Masjid

The style of architecture of the mosque is mostly Islamic. Sandstone is used on all three decorated gates, verandahs, chhatras, courtyard floors and slender minarets. The main hall made of white marble has a decorated archway.

  1. The two dark red minarets on either side of the primary structure of the mosque are equally beautiful and attractive.
  2. It is all made of stones which have been sculpted like flowers.
  3. This place is mostly for those who want to visit ancient places.
  4. The Moti Masjid has a white marble façade with two small domes on top.
  5. There is a large garden-like lawn inside the mosque.
  6. Two bathing tanks with marble fountains can also be found on either side of the eastern gate.
