About Sanchi Stupa
Sanchi Stupa is the biggest living example of art and architecture that flourished during the Maurya period of the 3rd century. This stupa is on top of a hill in Sanchi Town in Raisen District of Madhya Pradesh State, India. It was originally built by the great emperor of India, Ashoka, who started the Maurya dynasty. Sanchi Stupa is of great religious importance for Buddhists and a famous pilgrimage site.
Architecture of Sanchi Stupa
The Great Stupa of Sanchi is built in the Buddhist architectural style. It is the largest structure of its kind in the country with a height of 54 feet and a diameter of 120 feet. The main structure of the stupa is a hemispherical dome with a simple design.
