Architecture of Shaukat Mahal

Shaukat Mahal exemplifies an eclectic architectural style combining European Gothic and Indian Islamic elements. Constructed in the mid-19th century under the Holkar dynasty, the palace demonstrates the era’s experimentation with form and decoration. The primary material is lime plaster over brick masonry, complemented by wooden frameworks for windows and balconies. Its façade is marked by sharply pointed arches, ogee-shaped windows, slender minaret-like projections, and domed chhatris, illustrating both Indo-Islamic and European decorative sensibilities.

The monument is designed on multiple floors, with a balanced vertical structure that reflects careful planning.
