Umananda Temple is situated atop a hill called Bhasmakala on the riverine Peacock Island in the Brahmaputra River. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva and the main shrine can be reached by a flight of steep steps. Unlike a typical temple, the shrine allows the visitors to immerse souls in its serene and surreal environment. It has rock-cut figures which exhibit exquisite Assamese skill. The temple remains well connected to the other parts of the city and can be reached by ferries and streamers available at Kachari Ghat, Guwahati.

Perched on the top of the Navagraha hills it has nine consecrated Shivlings dedicated to the nine celestial bodies or the grahas. It is an 18th-century marvel built in the archaic shikhara style.
