About Navagraha Temple

Navagraha Temple is situated on the Chitrachal hill in the south-eastern part of the city of Guwahati. The temple is also known as the abode of Surya. Navagraha Temple is dedicated to nine celestial bodies called Navagraha in Hindu mythology. The Navagraha temple was built by the Ahom king Rajeshwar Singh in the late 18th century.

The temple complex is used as a research center for both astronomy and astrology. This temple enjoys a high position for the holder of glory and prestige. The temple attracts crowds of devotees every day.

Architecture of Navagraha Temple

The Navagraha Temple in Guwahati was built in beehive shaped architecture. The red colored dome shaped temple has nine lingas inside the sanctum sanctorum, representing the nine Celestial bodies. These Linga shaped planets are arranged in a circular mode with planet Sun at the center.

  1. Inside the temple, it is an exciting place to visit with each of the nine temples beautifully represented by Shivling.
  2. The Silpukhuri pond built in the temple complex is also a major attraction here and it is said that it is always full throughout the year.

By Road:- One can hire a cab or bus to visit the 'Navagraha' temple.

By Rail:- The temple is at a distance of 3 km from Guwahati Railway Station, from here one can easily take a rickshaw to the temple.

By Air:- The nearest airport to the temple is Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport which is just 18 km away. The destination can be reached by booking a cab.
