About Chowringhee
Chowringhee's history dates back to the 18th century when it was just a dirt road connecting Fort William to the village of Kalighat. It was widened and developed into a promenade during the British colonial era. Originally named after a village called Chourangi, it was later anglicized to Chowringhee.
