Allen Forest Zoo is among the oldest and was opened for people on 4th February, 1974. It is scattered in a huge area of approximately 76 ha and it appears to be a manmade forest. The environs of this zoo are rising and falling, which looks quite similar to a large forest but at the same time it is constructed on contemporary zoo construction principles. The animals are put into cemented and open closures, which gives them adequate space for moving around and expressing themselves. There are nearly 1400 animals found here and there is a small fish aquarium for the visitors
Japani Garden, Kanpur
Japani garden also famous as Japanese Garden is an ideal spot to hang around with family and friends. Children love this place because of the several activities like slides, boating, car rides to name a few. This landscaped attraction is overcrowded on all days of the week but especially on weekends. Kamla Retreat is a scenic destination with well-manicured gardens and parks. The retreat even comprises of a chain of canals, where people coming here can indulge in enjoyable boat rides with stunning greenery on both sides. The highlight of this place is a museum that houses an enormous compilation of archaeological and historical artifacts. The wave pool present here is an added attraction in Kamla Retreat. It is a personal property, so permission for entry can only be granted by the Deputy General Manager.
Nana Rao Park, Kanpur
Nicely placed in the centre of the city, Kanpur, Nana Rao Park has a lot of historical significance to Kanpur. This park was constructed in honor of the British women, who lost their lives in the revolt of 1857. It was also the epicentre of 1857 revolution in the city of Kanpur and it is said that approximately 148 Indian revolutionaries were hung up here. People come here to experience the history in calm environs where the cries of battle of independence from the Britishers began. The highlight of this park is the renowned Boodhha Bargad, an exceedingly sacred old banyan tree that stood there to feel the cries of the first battle of independence.
