About Nana Rao Park
Nana Rao Park located in Kanpur which has a history dating back to 1857. The park is named after the great activist Nana Rao Peshwa, who fought the first war of independence. This park is very well built and beautifully maintained by the management. Nana Rao Park is the biggest park in the city and has a beautiful collection of flowers and trees.
Nana Rao Park has statues of some famous personalities and freedom fighters who lost their lives fighting against the British. There are many trees in the park and the fountain adds to its beauty.
Interesting facts about Nana Rao Park
- Nana Rao Park was known as 'Memorial Well' during the British rule. It had a huge wall which was built in memory of those killed in the attack of Nana Sahib.
- Statues of freedom fighters like Nana Sahib, Tatya Tope and Rani Lakshmi Bai were erected in the park as a tribute.
- Next to the well is an old banyan tree called "old banyan", on whose branches the freedom fighters were hanged.
- Some fountains have also been installed randomly in the park, they add to its beauty.
