About Kalady
Kalady is a town near Malayattoor in Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. It is notable as the birthplace of the 8th century Indian philosopher Adi Shankara. It is also believed by the people that Kalady was found by a chieftain named Rajasekhar, whose dream was influenced by the Hindu god Shiva. He also built a temple for Shiva and a settlement for Brahmins at this place.

- Kalady is situated at the center of a sacred circuit, and is known for being the place where St. Thomas the Apostle stayed to pray and rest on his way to Mylapore. It is also an important stop for the Sabarimala pilgrimage, the largest annual pilgrimage in India, known to attract over 50 million devotees.
- Most of the buildings and structures in Kalady, both old as well as new, are associated with Adi Shankara, including the seven-storey Kirti Stambh, the Sringeri Math complex and several modern schools and colleges.
