About Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library

Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library is a historical library in the city of Patna, Bihar. This library has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India in 1969. It is funded by the Indian Ministry of Culture. The library was opened to the public on 29 October 1891 by Khan Bahadur Khuda Baksh.

The Khuda Bakhsh Library houses a vast collection of over 18000 Arabic and Persian manuscripts and over 2000 rare paintings belonging to the Mughal and Rajput eras. The library is a unique repository of past heritage, preserved in the form of manuscripts, written on paper, palm leaves, deer skins, clothes and miscellaneous materials.

The library is home to a distinguished collection of rare Arabic and Persian manuscripts, paintings from the Mughal and Rajput eras.
It is a historical repository of about 21000 original and unique manuscripts and 2.5 lakh printed books.
850 audio and 550 video tapes on many prominent and important personalities have been produced by the library.
It now functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and is fully funded by it.
