Mahatma Gandhi Road, also known as MG Road, is a major commercial high road leading to the city of Kochi in the Indian state of Kerala that was opened to the public in 1925. MG Road is seen as the lifestyle district of Kochi city.

The street has the largest number of textile outlets as well as the largest jewelery outlets in the city, it has recently been ranked as one of the busiest and most expensive in the state of Kerala, by roadside, several well-known retail outlets. Stores, hospitals, banks, major hotels, malls and multiplexes are located.

Interesting facts about M.G. Road

1. In 1923 the plan for the new road was finalized and work started with the consort Queen Nethar Amma Parukutty providing land for it.
2. MG Road is famous for its shopping complex, textile shops, jewelery shops and its restaurants - some of them selling over 10 varieties of dosa, pancakes made of South Indian rice flour.
3. Furniture, coir mats and other coir products, screw pine mats and spices are available at the shops here. Handicrafts showrooms along this section also offer handicrafts made of wood, shell, brass and ivory including the government-run Kairali Handicrafts Emporium.
4. MG Road was earlier known as 70 Feet Road and was famous for its width. Today, however, it is one of the most congested roads of Kochi, with traffic jams every other day. This is due to heavy traffic and the increasing commercialization of the area over the years.
