About Shaheed Minar
Shaheed Minar was originally known as the Ochterlony Monument and was built in 1848 in honor of Major General Sir David Ochterlony, who served in the Anglo-Nepalese War. In 1969, the monument was renamed Shaheed Minar to commemorate the sacrifices made by the Indian freedom fighters.
Architecture of Shaheed Minar
The monument is an exemplary piece of Indo-Saracenic architecture. It features a fusion of various architectural styles, including Gothic and Egyptian elements. The central spire rises to a height of 48 meters and is surrounded by a large courtyard.
