Following growing public outrage and intense political tussle between the ruling Congress and BJP in the state, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has put on hold the implementation of the proposed annual fare revision for the Namma Metro, which was to come into effect from February 9, 2026.

With the Bengaluru Metro expanding to 175 km, BMRCL plans to install 500 lifts and 1,000 escalators at new stations, focusing on smooth passenger movement, local manufacturing and long-term maintenance support.

Due to ongoing renovations at Yeshwantpur Railway Station, the Metro entrance has been temporarily relocated approximately 150 meters to the main road near Platform 6. The general ticket counters have also been relocated to the temporary entrance. Passengers are requested to use the 30-meter-wide foot overbridge for safe and easy access to the platforms.

Bengaluru Metro announced the annual automatic fare revision for Namma Metro on February 4, 2026, which will come into effect from February 9. The hike will range from ₹1 to ₹5, approximately four percent to 10 percent, depending on the distance.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has launched a special campaign to promote passenger etiquette and responsible travel behaviour. In a media release issued on January 30, the BMRCL said that certain offences causing inconvenience to fellow passengers are punishable under the Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002. The metro authority urged all passengers to follow basic travel etiquette to ensure a safe and comfortable journey.
