About Akshardham Temple

Akshardham Temple is a quintessential Hindu temple in Delhi which is a symbol of Indian culture, architecture and spirituality. The temple is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, an Indian yogi and spiritual soul. The temple was officially opened on 6 November 2005 by Pramukh Swami Maharaj in the presence of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Manmohan Singh, LK Advani and BL Joshi.

Architecture of Akshardham Temple

This temple is 141 feet high, 316 feet wide and 356 feet long. Within more than 234 stunningly cut pillars, 20 quadrangular minarets, 9 elaborate arches and 20,000 models of India's profound characters, the sanctuary reflects India's way of life and supernatural extravagance. The sanctuary is decorated with Italian Carrara marble and Rajasthani pink sandstone.

  1. The name Akshardham is made up of two words - Akshar meaning everlasting and Dham meaning home. Thus Akshardham means the home of the everlasting.

  3. The Yagyapurush Kund inside the temple is the largest of its kind on the planet. More than 11,000 artisans tried to plan this temple.
