About Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, formerly known as Victoria Terminus but was renamed as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in the year 1996. It was built as a railway station in the year 1853 which was established as Bori Bunder Railway Station. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was constructed on 20 June 1887. In the year 1997, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai was included in the World Heritage Site under UNESCO.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus presents a beautiful example of Indian architecture and Victorian Italian Gothic architecture. The terminus was designed by British-born architectural engineer Frederick William Stevens in an exuberant Italian Gothic style from initial designs by Axel Haig.

1. The station has been made passenger friendly for Divyang and Senior Citizens.
2. Charging points for electric vehicles have been installed in the parking lot, so that people can be attracted like electric vehicles.
3. Trees have been planted and small parks have been made in more than 15 percent area of the station. Also, they are taken care of here with organic manure.
4. CSMT station has installed 245 kWp solar panels at the site. All the lamps have been replaced with LED lights.
5. Sensors have been installed in the waiting room and many offices. Also special arrangements have been made for cleanliness from the waiting room to the parking lot.
6. Several hi-tech facilities are being provided to the passengers including WiFi, Automatic Ticket Vending Machine, Tourism Information and Booking Centre, Pharmacy and Medical facility.
7. Initiatives have been taken to significantly reduce the use of plastic bags at the station.
