About Humayun's Tomb
Humayun's Tomb, near Jor Bagh in Delhi, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a landmark of early Mughal architecture. Built between 1565 and 1572 CE, the tomb was commissioned by Empress Haji Begum during the reign of Emperor Akbar in memory of the Mughal emperor Humayun. Spread over approximately 27 hectares, the monument introduced the Persian-style charbagh garden layout to the Indian subcontinent. Its cultural and tourism significance lies in its architectural influence on later Mughal masterpieces, including the Taj Mahal. Built of red sandstone and white marble, the mausoleum reflects Persian, Timurid and Indian design traditions through its symmetrical plan, domed structure and decorative detailing.
