Architecture of Tughlaqabad Fort
Tughlaqabad Fort is a prime example of Tughlaq-era architecture, planned by Sultan Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq (reign 1320–1325 CE) during the Delhi Sultanate. The fort was built using rubble masonry, with locally quarried quartzite stone set in lime mortar. Its walls slope inward to resist attacks, reflecting the advanced engineering techniques of the Tughlaq dynasty. The fort’s massive stone walls, stretching over 6 kilometers, enclose the entire complex. Its layout follows a rectangular walled plan, with bastions and minarets placed at regular intervals.
