About Calico Museum of Textiles

The Calico Museum of Textiles is located in the city of Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat in western India. The museum was established in 1949 by enterprising siblings Gautam Sarabhai and Gira Sarabhai. Textiles intended to consolidate the vast textile heritage include the court garments used by the Mughal and provincial rulers And the museum is managed by Sarabhai Foundation.

There is also a Textile Tech Gallery and a Library. The museum is open for all days of the week except Wednesdays from 10:15 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:45 pm to 4:30 pm.
The relative humidity inside the museum is also controlled and the lights are dimmed between visiting hours to prolong the life of the clothing.
The main textile gallery of the museum can only be visited on a morning tour (up to 20 people), which lasts two hours. The afternoon tour is dedicated to the Sarabhai Foundation's collection of religious art, which explores depictions of Indian gods, including textile galleries.
