About Bithoor
Bithoor is located on the banks of the river Ganges in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh and is a center of Hindu pilgrimage. In 1857, the first war of Indian independence started from Bithoor itself. It is believed that the great poet and sage Valmiki composed the Hindu epic of Ramayana at Bithoor. According to Hindu scriptures, Bithoor is the birthplace of Lava and Kush, the sons of Rama. Another legend says that Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, chose Bithoor as his place of residence and performed rituals here to create the world, henceforth it is also known as Brahmavarta.

- In the 18th century, Maharaja Tikait Rai, who was the minister of Awadh province, constructed a bathing pond at Bithur called Pathar Ghat.
