Kanpur Memorial Church, Kanpur

Kanpur Memorial Church is an impressive architectural building also known as All Soul Cathedral. This church was built in 1875 to commemorate the courage and valor of British soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the turbulent Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The church is built in the Lombardy Gothic style and was designed by the East Bengal Railway's architect Walter Granville. Inside the church are heartwarming memorial tables, inscriptions and memorials that pay homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives for their country.

Kanpur Memorial Church is crucifix in shape and built in Lombardo-Gothic style which was designed by Walter Granville, architect of East Bengal Railway. It is made of red sandstone and has a campanile (bell tower) with a spire.

1. The church is dedicated to the victims of the Battle of Kanpur and several memorial tablets cover most of the interior walls.
2. This church is a rare beauty in such a beautiful city of Kanpur and situated in the cantonment area it looks more beautiful amidst all the greenery.
3. A separate enclosure in the eastern extremity of the church contains the memorial garden and separated from the main building by an exquisitely carved and striking in appearance Gothic screen.
4. At the center of the church stands a beautiful figurine of an angel, designed by the eminent Baron Carlo Marochetti.
