About Charminar
Charminar, located at Charminar Road in Ghansi Bazaar, Hyderabad, India, is an iconic 16th-century monument built in 1591 CE by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. Made for commemoration the founding of Hyderabad and to mark the end of a plague outbreak, it has since become a central cultural and tourist landmark. The structure covers approximately 5,600 square metres and is famous for its four large minarets, each of which stands 56 metres tall. Its design combines Persian, Indo-Islamic and local architectural influences, with ornamental arches, stucco designs and a central mosque on the upper floor, making it a significant symbol of Hyderabad's heritage and urban identity.
Architecture of Charminar
The Charminar is an example of Persianate Indo-Islamic architecture. It was built in 1591 CE during the reign of Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. Its square-shaped structure features four large minarets at each corner, each 56 meters high and adorned with intricate stucco work and balconies.
