About Durgam Cheruvu
Durgam Cheruvu, also known as Rayadurgam Cheruvu, is a freshwater lake located in Rangareddy district of Telangana state, India. The lake is also known as Gupta Lake as it is hidden between the areas of Jubilee Hills and Madhapur.
The bridge by construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) across the inaccessible Cheruvu lake in Hitech City was inaugurated by Telangana's Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao in September 2020. The inaccessible Cheruvu was built by the royal kings to meet the water needs of the residents.
Architecture of Durgam Cheruvu
The inaccessible Cheruvu Hanging Bridge was constructed using 6,600 cubic meters of concrete, 4,800 tons of steel and 287 tons of stay-cable. Except cables, which were sourced from Germany, all other construction materials were procured locally under the government's Make in India programme. The inaccessible Cheruvu bridge has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 184 crore.
