Madan Kamdev is an old Hindu temple near Baihata Chariali in Kamrup, Assam, famous for its intricate erotic sculptures depicting the love of the God. It is believed to have been built during the 9th-10th centuries during the reign of the Pala or Kamarupa dynasty. The site holds immense archaeological and cultural value. Spread over approximately 6 hectares, the temple is an example of the medieval sculptural art of the region, which shows the influence of Gupta and Pala architectural styles. Its ruins contain intricately carved sandstone fragments depicting gods, apsaras and mythological figures, showcasing the skill and creativity of early Assamese artisans.
