About Mecca Masjid
Mecca Masjid is a historic mosque located in Hyderabad, India. It is one of the largest mosques in India with a capacity of 10,000 people. The construction work of this mosque was started in the 16th century by Mohammad Quli Qutb Shah, the 6th Sultan of Golconda. The construction work started in the year 1617 under the supervision of Mir Faizullah Baig and Rangiyah Chaudhary was completed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1694. The work of this mosque continued even during the time of Abdullah Qutb Shah and Tana Shah. The mosque takes its name "Makkah Masjid" from the bricks that were brought from the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The mosque is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Hyderabad. It attracts tourists from all over the world who come to admire its beauty and historical importance.
Architecture of Mecca Masjid
The mosque displays a stunning blend of architectural styles combining Persian, Mughal and Indian influences. It is famous for its grandeur and architectural beauty. It is constructed entirely of dressed stone, rather than rubble or plaster. The mosque's prayer hall measures 225 feet, and its ceiling is 75 feet high. There are five open arches in the front of the prayer hall, and there are two minarets on either side of it. At the top of each minaret is a dome, and on either side of the prayer hall is an arched balcony. The courtyard of the mosque is 108 square meters. It also includes a sundial, as well as the remains of a hammam. There are two minarets located on either side of the main entrance of the mosque complex.
