About Nehru Zoological Park

Nehru Zoological Park is located near Mir Alam Talab in Hyderabad. Named after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, this zoo is a major attraction of the city. The park was recognized in 1959 and was opened to the public in 1963. The amazing place is spread over an area of 380 acres and shelters more than 140 species of birds, mammals and reptiles.

The only feature of the park is that all the species here are placed in their zoological order. The Forest Department mainly strives for the rehabilitation of endangered species and creates public awareness for conservation and protection of wildlife and research.

  2. Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad has been granted ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standards Certification by ASCB, UK for Standard Working Practices. With this, Hyderabad Zoo has now become the first zoo in the country to receive the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standard Certificate.
  3. Many animals are domesticated in the zoo, which are rehabilitated in various deer parks and sanctuaries to bring back the dwindling natural population.
  4. To promote captive breeding of vultures in zoos, the state forest department has requested Maharashtra for 10 of these critically endangered birds.
  5. There are now nine white tigers left in the zoo, of which six are males and three are females.
