About Osman Sagar
Osmansagar, also known as Gandhipet, is an excellent picnic spot on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Osmansagar is one of the two lakes located in the periphery of the city which supplies drinking water to the city. It was built during the reign of Osman, the last Nizam of Hyderabad state, to protect the city after the great Musi flood of 1908. The terraced and landscaped parks around the lake serve as picnic spots for visitors to the area and are very popular.

The lake is approximately 46 km, and the reservoir is approximately 29 km, with a total level of 1,790 ft and a capacity of 3.9 tmc ft. The engineer at the time of construction was Mohammad Hussain, Madrik's son Late Khaja Mohiuddin. A princely guest house called Sagar Mahal, overlooking the lake and now a heritage building, was built as the last Nizam's summer resort.
