About Osman Sagar

Osmansagar, also known as Gandhipet, is an excellent picnic spot on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Osmansagar is one of the two lakes located in the periphery of the city which supplies drinking water to the city. It was built during the reign of Osman, the last Nizam of Hyderabad state, to protect the city after the great Musi flood of 1908. The terraced and landscaped parks around the lake serve as picnic spots for visitors to the area and are very popular.

The lake is approximately 46 km, and the reservoir is approximately 29 km, with a total level of 1,790 ft and a capacity of 3.9 tmc ft. The engineer at the time of construction was Mohammad Hussain, Madrik's son Late Khaja Mohiuddin. A princely guest house called Sagar Mahal, overlooking the lake and now a heritage building, was built as the last Nizam's summer resort.

  3. Many people visit the lake early in the morning, as not only is the sunrise enchanting, but even the ride till it is in full refreshment. Sunset at Gandipet also attracts many visitors. Here you can also make a plan to stay overnight.
  4. The guest house named Sagar Mahal by Andhra Pradesh Tourism offers a idyllic ambiance by the tranquil lakeside and away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This guest house, Sagar Mahal in Gandhipet was once a seaside resort of the Nizams. A part of this palace has been opened to the public; There are about 10 double rooms for accommodation.
  5. It offers its guests not only a pleasant ambiance and breathtaking views of the lake but also delightful dishes to pamper their taste buds.
