About Sacred Heart Cathedral
Sacred Heart Cathedral, also known as Sacred Heart Cathedral, is located in New Delhi, India. It is one of the oldest and most important Catholic churches in the city. Construction of the cathedral began in 1929, and was designed by the architect Henry Mead. Inside the church, visitors can see beautiful stained glass windows depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ and other Biblical characters. The interior of the cathedral is designed to create a quiet and contemplative environment for worshippers.
Architecture of Sacred Heart Cathedral
The church building was designed by British architect Henry Mead based on Italian architecture. A facade of white columns supports the canopy, and on each side of the cathedral's entrance portico, there are circular arched turrets rising above the roof. The interior features a massive vaulted ceiling, polished stone floors, and wide arches. Behind the marble altar in the apse is a large fresco depicting the Last Supper. The side chapel has a large crucifix on the left, next to which is a statue of the Virgin Mary.
