About Vishrambaug Wada
Vishrambagh Wada was built in 1807 for the Peshwa leaders of the Maratha Empire. The magnificent palace was built over six years and served as a splendid residence for the last of the Peshwas - Bajirao Peshwa II. The Vishrambagh Wada was beautifully designed and provided all the facilities to the aristocratic family.
When the British took over the city, the building served as an education center for Sanskrit learning. It was also put to many other uses after it was bought by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the 1930s. Today, only part of the palace is open to the public, while the rest of the building houses a post office and several government offices. The building also houses a permanent exhibition showcasing the history of the area.
