About Connemara Public Library

The Connemara Public Library is one of the four National Depository libraries in the country and, therefore, receives copies of all books and other texts published in India. Established in 1896, the library is a repository of centuries-old publications, including some of the oldest in the country's history. Contains esteemed works and collections. It was opened to all in the year 1930.

The Connemara Library holds a place of pride and prestige in the country not only for its remarkable collection but also for its extraordinary architecture. The library was modeled on the British Museum Library and, with its ornate wood carvings and stained glass panels, testifies to the old style of British architecture.

  1. Connemara Public Library is one of the four National Depository Libraries, which receives a copy of all the books, newspapers and periodicals published in India.
  2. Only members can take home books and avail other library services. Membership Fee: The annual membership fee is Rs 50 per person. In addition, the museum charges Rs 50 for each book issued to the member. Maximum 6 books issued per member
  3. Under the provision of the Delivery of Books and Newspapers (Public Libraries) Act 1954, every publisher in India has to compulsorily send a copy of each publication to the library. In addition a good number of publications and periodicals of the United Nations and its specialized organs and the Asian Development Bank were also received.
  4. Several books were added every year by purchasing from funds provided by the state government budget. The collection includes 1608 rare books including the Bible.
