Dakshina Chitra is a living-history museum in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, dedicated to South Indian heritage and culture. Dakshin Chitra is a heritage village that reflects the lifestyle of South Indians in their respective states. Dakshina Chitra Museum was established in 1996 with a vision to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of South India. The museum is built on 10 acres (4.0 ha) of land taken on a 33-year lease from the Government of Tamil Nadu. This museum is built in the form of a village in the middle of the city. It consists of about 18 different houses showcasing various relevant exhibits to provide a unique experience to the visitors. The architecture of Dakshinachitra is inspired by the traditional styles of South Indian villages and heritage houses. The village complex consists of well-preserved and relocated heritage houses, each representing a different state of South India. The structures are adorned with intricate woodwork, courtyards and verandas, showcasing the architectural diversity of the region.
