The temple was opened in 1997 on the orders of A C Bhakti Vedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON Society. The ISKCON temple in Ahmedabad is dedicated to Lord Krishna and his beloved girlfriend Radha.
The temple is of great importance as it is still considered as the most popular temple in Ahmedabad. The ISKCON temple was built as a step to spread the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to as many people as possible, the peaceful atmosphere and the rhythmic chants of Hare Krishna invoke a sense of happiness and peace of mind. The temple is spread over an area of 1.3 hectares of land. It has images of Radha and Govinda, Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman, Jagannath Baldev, Shrinathji and Subhadraji with beautiful carvings and decorated with pearls. A notable feature of this grand temple is the harmonic chandelier.
