Website 🔗About Mishkal Mosque
The Mishkal Masjid is located in the Kuttichira area of Thekkepuram, Calicut. It was built in the fourteenth century by a pious and wealthy Arab merchant named Nakhuda Mishkal. The mosque is a typical example of the type of construction common in mosques of the time. Mishkal Masjid is one of the oldest mosques in the region. It is also an important monument containing the historical and traditional Muslim worship and religious landscape of the region over the centuries.
Architecture of Mishkal Mosque
The Mishkal Mosque was built of heavy wood and did not have minarets or domes. The intricate carvings on the walls and ceilings and the gopuram-style arches at the entrances show a remarkable resemblance to traditional Mosque architecture. A wooden minbar, or pulpit, was added to the structure.
