This temple was built in 1735 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar, who was a prominent ruler and was known for her contribution to temple construction and restoration in the region. The main deity of the temple is Lord Ganesha, he is revered as the remover of obstacles and the god of knowledge and beginnings. According to the belief here, all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled by worshiping in this temple. A large number of people come to this temple for worship mostly on Wednesdays and Sundays.
The main festival of this temple is Vinayaka Chaturthi and it is celebrated in a grand manner in the months of August and September.
