About Rajwada Palace
Rajwada Palace is one of the oldest buildings in Indore city. This palace was built in 1766 by the Holkars of the Maratha Empire. It displays a mixture of Maratha, Mughal and French style of architecture. The palatial building has a magnificent wooden gate and is surrounded by bastions.
Its elegantly decorated courtyard, wide balconies and windows allow one to peek into the grand past. Other attractions include a well-maintained garden, an artificial waterfall, a statue of Queen Ahilya Bai, beautiful fountains and the surrounding bullion market.
Architecture of Rajwada Palace
Rajwada Mahal is a seven-storey building with the lower three storeys made of stone while the upper storeys are made of wood. The entrance has an arch and a huge wooden door which is covered with iron studs. After entering from the façade, visitors enter a courtyard that houses the Ganesh Hall with a Mughal arch. The existing building of Rajwada Palace is rectangular in structure with cylindrical bastions located at the four corners.
