The Delhi Cabinet has approved three new metro corridors at a cost of Rs 12,014.91 crore, targeted for completion by 2028, which will improve the city's connectivity and reduce pollution.

The Metro Corporation has awarded a contract worth ₹2,200 crore for the underground route from MG Road to the airport. Underground stations are planned at Regal Square, Bada Ganpati, and the airport, although the revised route is still pending Cabinet approval. Passenger operations on this 17-kilometer-long elevated route are expected to begin within three to four months after safety certification.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the final phase of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Corridor on February 22nd. Services will now operate on the entire route, from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, marking a significant milestone for the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). The inauguration will also coincide with the launch of Meerut Metro services, enabling seamless communication between high-speed Namo Bharat trains and the metro network within the city.

Trial runs on Pune Metro Line 3 from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar have been successfully completed in both directions, bringing the project one step closer to commercial operations, which will likely begin by the end of March. Meanwhile, the flyovers from Shivajinagar to Baner and Baner to Shivajinagar will open to the public next week.

The Delhi Metro has announced changes to its services on February 12th to facilitate spectators attending the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The match is scheduled to begin at around 7 p.m. and is expected to continue until late in the evening. To accommodate the large number of spectators expected to attend the match, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has extended the last train timings on most lines. Normally, metro services close between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., but on match days, trains will run later to ensure fans can return home safely and without overcrowding. This one-day change is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and managing potential crowds at major stations near the stadium.

The Magenta Line (Line 8) of the Delhi Metro network is set to be the longest corridor, with the most interchange stations and underground stations. Officials stated on February 11, 2026, that this extension is expected to significantly improve cross-city connectivity in Delhi-NCR. In light of the recently approved Phase V (A) corridor, i.e., the extension of Line 8 (Magenta Line) from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (via Central Vista), the Indraprastha-Indralok corridor of Phase IV will be implemented as an extension of the Magenta Line. With these additions, the total length of the Magenta Line, extending from Noida Botanical Garden to Indralok, will be approximately 89 kilometers, making it the longest corridor in the Delhi Metro network.

After the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) shifted the Delhi-Shahjanpur-Behro Metro Rail Line to the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has decided to change the route of the old Gurugram Metro Line along the Old Delhi Road. The revised Metro route will now go towards the Delhi border up to Dundahera and then turn towards Shankar Chowk on NH-48. This change will allow the Metro to cover more areas of Old Delhi Road and Udyog Vihar, and will provide more space for construction of tracks and stations.

Following a long-standing demand from local residents and the community, the Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 Metro Station in East Delhi has been renamed Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar. The decision was taken by the Delhi State Naming Authority, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Mumbai's suburban rail network is set to receive a significant upgrade with the introduction of new Vande Metro local trains. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) aims to complete approximately 40 kilometers of elevated corridors by March 2027. If construction continues as planned, approximately 90 percent of the elevated track will be operational by early 2027.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL) successfully conducted the first trial run on the 'Up-Line' of Corridor-1 from Kanpur Central to Naubasta. The trial was conducted in the presence of Mr. Sushil Kumar, Managing Director, UPMRC. He also inspected the track, third rail, power supply and signaling system of Line 1. UPMRCL conducted a trial run on Corridor 1 of the Kanpur Metro Project, which stretches 23.785 km between IIT Kanpur and Naubasta and comprises 21 stations.

With the Bengaluru Metro expanding to 175 km, BMRCL plans to install 500 lifts and 1,000 escalators at new stations, focusing on smooth passenger movement, local manufacturing and long-term maintenance support.

The Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) is nearing completion of the final two elevated stations—Malahi Pakadi and Khemnichak—on its priority metro corridor. Both stations are now in the final stages of construction, and metro services on this extended section are expected to begin by the end of this month.

The Kanpur Metro project made progress as the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL) conducted a test run on Corridor 1 of the Kanpur Metro project, which stretches 23.785 km between IIT Kanpur and Naubasta and includes 21 stations. The UPMRCL successfully completed the first test run on the 'Up-Line' of Corridor 1 from Kanpur Central to Naubasta. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on 3 february 2026 that the government has installed either mist spray systems or "anti-smog guns" at all 143 elevated metro stations in the city. "Tackling air pollution is the government's top priority and concrete, practical measures are being implemented at the ground level," the chief minister said. As part of this effort, 131 mist spray systems and 12 anti-smog guns have been installed so far in busy and sensitive areas like metro stations.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) approved two proposed metro corridors, from Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar to Saswad Road, in February 2025. Both lines are expected to be constructed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor corridor is 11.352 km long and includes 10 stations, while the Hadapsar Bus Depot-Saswad Road corridor is 5.573 km long and includes 4 stations.

Due to ongoing renovations at Yeshwantpur Railway Station, the Metro entrance has been temporarily relocated approximately 150 meters to the main road near Platform 6. The general ticket counters have also been relocated to the temporary entrance. Passengers are requested to use the 30-meter-wide foot overbridge for safe and easy access to the platforms.

Bengaluru Metro announced the annual automatic fare revision for Namma Metro on February 4, 2026, which will come into effect from February 9. The hike will range from ₹1 to ₹5, approximately four percent to 10 percent, depending on the distance.
