Line 1 History, Facts & Expansion
- The Delhi-Meerut RRTS (Namo Bharat) is India's first regional rapid transit system, built by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).
- The corridor is about 82.15 km long from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram, with 15 stations open and Jangpura under construction.
- The first 17 km section, Sahibabad-Duhai Depot, opened on 20 October 2023.
- The full corridor, including Sarai Kale Khan and the Meerut South-Modipuram section, opened on 22 February 2026.
- Trains are designed for 180 km/h and operate at up to 160 km/h.
- Operations are handled by DB RRTS Operations India, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn.
- Average daily ridership was about 95,000 in July 2026, after crossing one lakh on some days in June 2026.
- Namo Bharat trains are 6-coach sets built by Alstom at Savli, Gujarat.
