Kanpur Metro Network Expansion Plan: Phase I
The Kanpur Metro expansion will include the extension of the route up to Kanpur Central Railway Station, adding five underground stations. The route will be 15 km long and will include a total of 14 stations. With this extension, the journey between IIT Kanpur and Kanpur Central can be completed in just 25 minutes, with a fare of Rs 40. The extended line will be inaugurated on January 7.
In future, the Kanpur Metro will be extended to Kanpur Airport and Trans Ganga City.

- Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation other metro projects in the state are also under construction now such as Agra Metro, Meerut Metro, Varanasi Metro, Prayagraj Metro, Gorakhpur Metro.
- Kanpur Metro Construction of the line began on September 2015, which began its commercial operation on 28 December 2021.
- Kanpur metro has also provided free RO drinking water, toilets, escalators, and lifts at all the stations.
- WiFi is available at each station with free access for smart cardholders.
- The metro could accommodate speeds up to 90 km/h (56 mph) but the typical usage would be at speeds between 32 KM/H to 35 KM/H.
- GoSmart card can be used for non-transport (integrated with Kanpur metro) transactions of Kanpur.
- GoSmart card can be used for other Metros of Uttar Pradesh like Lucknow, Varanasi, Meerut, Agra, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, and Jhansi).

- The first metro trainset was taken as a trial run from the assembling area to the depot. Testing of the trainset's doors and signals were also taken, as of 25 October.
- The estimated cost of the Kanpur Metro entire projects is 11,076.48 crore, out of which the cost of the priority section has been Rs 2,100 crore. While the European Investment Bank (EIB) has sanctioned a loan of Rs 5,551.99 cr (Euro 650 million), the remaining cost is being shared by the Union and the state governments.

Kanpur Metro News & Updates
Kanpur Metro: Trial run from Moti Jheel to Kanpur Central to commence soon. Kanpur Metro's preparations for the commercial operation from IIT to Kanpur Central station are now in the final stage. This month, a test run will be conducted up to Kanpur Central, paving the way for the launch of commercial operations in this section.
◷ 2024-11-10 | ☍ Times of IndiaIn this four kilometer long underground route in Kanpur, the construction of Chuniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayaganj underground metro stations is also in the final stage. The metro will enter the underground section from Makrawatganj only. UPMRC MD said that after Motijheel, the metro train going to Naubasta will enter the underground section through this tunnel. On the other hand, the construction of metro tunnels from Kanpur Central to Nayaganj underground metro station will also be completed next month.
◷ 2024-03-15 | ☍ Amar UjalaTatya Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) working in Kanpur completed the construction of down line tunnel on Wednesday afternoon from Makravatganj to Chunniganj underground metro station of Kanpur, 420 meters away. Nana TBM has already completed this work. Thus, the construction of tunnel for up and down metro line from Makrawatganj to Nayaganj underground metro station has been completed.
◷ 2024-03-15 | ☍ Amar UjalaChief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given instructions for expansion of Lucknow Metro for the needs of the capital Lucknow. Regarding Kanpur and Agra, Chief Minister Yogi said that work is going on on two new phases of metro each in Kanpur and Agra. There is no shortage of money for any project of public interest. The funds should be released on time.
◷ 2024-01-02 | ☍ APV LiveThe third and fourth Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) of Kanpur Metro are engaged in tunneling work in the Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section under Corridor-1 (IIT-Naubasta). The Kanpur Metro Rail project has been named 'Azad' and 'Vidyarthi' after freedom fighters Chandrashekhar 'Azad' and Ganesh Shankar 'Vidyarthi'.
