Kanpur Metro Network Expansion Plan: Phase I

The Kanpur Metro expansion will include the extension of the route up to Kanpur Central Railway Station, adding five underground stations. The route will be 15 km long and will include a total of 14 stations. With this extension, the journey between IIT Kanpur and Kanpur Central can be completed in just 25 minutes, with a fare of Rs 40. The extended line will be inaugurated on January 7.

In future, the Kanpur Metro will be extended to Kanpur Airport and Trans Ganga City.

  • Kanpur Metro Construction of the line began on September 2015, which began its commercial operation on 28 December 2021.
  • Kanpur metro has also provided free RO drinking water, toilets, escalators, and lifts at all the stations.
  • WiFi is available at each station with free access for smart cardholders.
  • The metro could accommodate speeds up to 90 km/h (56 mph) but the typical usage would be at speeds between 32 KM/H to 35 KM/H.

Kanpur Metro News & Updates

Kanpur Metro has achieved a significant milestone in the underground section of Corridor 1 (IIT to Naubasta). Construction of the "Up-Line" tunnel has been completed, connecting Kanpur Central to Naubasta via Jhankarkati and Transport Nagar stations and connecting the entire underground section. This underground corridor will make travel to Kanpur even more convenient.

Members of the 'Parivartan Forum' organization in Kanpur organized a joyride in the metro from Kanpur Central to IIT today. The members motivated people to use the metro through slogans like 'Metro Se Jao Jaam Hatao' and 'Metro Chuno, Dhuan Nahi'. Kanpur Metro officials made the members aware of the features and facilities of the metro. The metro route connects major educational institutions, hospitals, offices and markets of the city. It gives relief to the commuters from traffic jams.

In Kanpur Metro update, the work of installing signals on the five kilometer route on the Baradevi to Naubasta section has been completed. Along with this, train radio access antennas have also been installed. Now preparations are underway to start the process of testing the signaling system soon. There are Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Buddhist Nagar and Naubasta stations on this route.
