About Patna Metro

The Patna Metro, an urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) currently under development in Patna, Bihar's capital and largest city, is being constructed by the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (PMRCL). The Phase 1 project of the Patna Metro spans 30.91 km and consists of two lines with a total of 26 stations. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this phase was prepared by RITES and received approval from the state government of Bihar on February 9, 2016.

Patna Metro Construction work:

In September 25, 2018, the Bihar government granted approval for the establishment of Patna Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (PMRCL) to oversee and execute the Patna Metro project. To aid in its implementation, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was appointed as the General Consultant (GC) by PMRCL. The project received the approval of the Central Government on February 6, 2019, and on February 17, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project.

The DMRC made an announcement in November 2019 regarding modifications to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and alignment of two lines. These changes resulted in the construction of a second interchange at Khemni Chowk, the removal of Line-1's depot at Aitwarpur, and the inclusion of two new stations at Ramkrishna Nagar and Jaganpura. To fund the project, the DMRC intends to secure an official development assistance (ODA) loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The groundwork for Phase 1 of the Patna Metro commenced in November 2020, with NCC initiating the initial preparations. Piling for the construction work started in December 2020. Although the original deadline for the completion and opening of the first section of Patna Metro was set for August 2023, it is now anticipated to be finished and operational by August 2025. The entire Phase 1 project is scheduled to reach completion in 2025.
