  • Nagpur Metro is a rapid transit system for the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.
  • Nagpur Metro Metro project was conceived during the year 2012, this time Nagpur city population more than 20 lakh.
  • 22 February 2012, the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) signed an agreement with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
  • Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Detailed Project Report final version submitted in November 2013.
  • In November 2014 Union Cabinet approved the Nagpur Metro project.
  • After one year later in November 2015 construction work start of Orange Line: North-South Corridor.

Nagpur Metro Network Expansion Plan: Phase II and Phase III

The foundation stone for Phase II of the Nagpur Metro was laid by the Prime Minister on 11 December 2022, and construction work on it began in November 2023. This phase includes four major extensions of the existing two metro corridors, known as Reach 2A, Reach 1A, Reach 3A, and Reach 4A. Phase II aims to connect rural areas of Nagpur district to the metro network and will act as an extension of Phase I.

This phase will extend the metro network to Kanhan in the north, Butibori MIDC in the south, Transport Nagar (Kapsi) in the east, and Hingna in the west. There will be an average gap of 1.2 kilometres between each station under the proposed expansion. The total network length will be 43.8 kilometres and will include 32 stations. The project is targeted to be completed by December 2027.

The Phase III of the Nagpur Metro is a proposed 11.5 km long corridor from Sitabuldi to Koradi, planned under the ₹25,567 crore comprehensive mobility plan. Starting at Kasturchand Park station, the corridor will have both elevated and underground sections—the first underground metro stretch in the city.

A second 25 km corridor from Mankapur Chowk to Rachana Junction along the Inner Ring Road is also proposed, which will initially be for electric buses, and is likely to be upgraded to a metro corridor in the future.

Children below 3 feet (90 cms) height are allowed to travel free if accompanied by an adult. Children above 3 feet (90 cms) will be charged full fare.

The Nagpur Metro has decided to impose a complete ban on tobacco and tobacco mixed products in metro trains. Passengers found with the banned products would be fined.

  • 2025-10-21 - Savner MLA Ashish Deshmukh proposed extending the upcoming Nagpur Metro Phase-III corridor from Koradi to Khaparkheda. Deshmukh met with MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar to present the proposal and formally discuss its feasibility.

  • 2025-08-05 - MahaMetro has finalised a new corridor connecting Sitabuldi and Koradi under Nagpur Metro Phase 3, as part of the city’s Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP). The decision was taken during a high-level meeting on 27 July 2025 attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and senior officials.

  • 2025-07-31 - While the construction of Nagpur Metro Phase 2 is progressing at a steady pace, a new metro corridor connecting Sitabuldi and Koradi has been finalised under Nagpur Metro Phase 3. The route is a part of the recently unveiled Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) that aims to enhance connectivity in the city.

  • 2025-07-21 - Colossus Infra Projects Pvt Ltd will provide train operation and station control services for the Nagpur Metro Rail Project for a period of 2 years (730 days). Colossus Infra Projects Pvt Ltd has received this contract from Maha-Metro (Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation). The value of the contract is Rs 21.2 crore. The Nagpur Metro Rail Project will be completed in two phases. Currently, the first phase of Nagpur Metro is fully operational, while the second phase is under construction.

  • 2025-07-18 - According to data released by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro), the Nagpur Metro has crossed the 10 crore total passengers mark. The system, which began commercial operations in March 2019, has seen a steady increase in the number of passengers over the last six years.
