Bhoj Metro — History, Facts & Expansion Plan
- The Bhoj Metro, also known as the Bhopal Metro, is a rapid transit system serving Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, India.
- The complete Bhopal Metro network is planned to include six corridors with a total route length of 104.87 kilometres.
- The first phase of the Bhopal Metro project covers 28 kilometres of Line 2 and Line 5, which are currently under construction.
- The estimated cost of the Bhoj Metro project is approximately ₹80 billion (US$950 million).
- The metro system will operate through multiple structures, including on-road sections, elevated bridges, and underground routes at selected locations.
- The priority corridor between AIIMS and Subhash Nagar was inaugurated on 21 December 2025.
- In September 2019 the Bhopal Metro Project name was renamed to Bhoj Metro by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath while laying the foundation stone.
- 21 December 2025 marks a historic day for Bhopal. After 8 years the official announcement of the metro train project, the metro train began running in the ‘city of lakes’.
