The Bhoj Metro, also known as the Bhopal Metro, is a rapid transit system serving Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, India.
The complete Bhopal Metro network is planned to include six corridors with a total route length of 104.87 kilometres.
The first phase of the Bhopal Metro project covers 28 kilometres of Line 2 and Line 5, which are currently under construction.
The estimated cost of the Bhoj Metro project is approximately ₹80 billion (US$950 million).
The metro system will operate through multiple structures, including on-road sections, elevated bridges, and underground routes at selected locations.
The priority corridor between AIIMS and Subhash Nagar was inaugurated on 21 December 2025.

Note:

Currently, the ticketing system in the metro will be completely manual. Passengers will have to purchase tickets from counters, similar to the railway system. Online or automatic ticketing systems have not yet been implemented.

Bhoj Metro News & Updates

Seeing the enthusiasm for the metro in Bhopal, the metro management is now exploring the possibility of operating trains on the second track as well. Currently, with only one train running between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS, passengers are facing long waits of up to 75 minutes. Therefore, additional trains may be introduced during peak hours in the new year.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday (December 20, 2025) formally inaugurated the first phase of the Bhopal Metro, commencing services for the first time on a nearly seven-kilometre route in the city.

Entry of outsiders has been restricted at all eight metro stations on the priority corridor until the Bhopal Metro's inauguration day, December 20. An official of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRC) said preparations for the inauguration are underway on a war footing.

The Bhopal Metro will begin commercial operations on December 21st. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate virtually in the event. Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will inaugurate the metro. He will tour Bhopal in a three-coach metro decorated with flowers. People will be able to travel for free in the first week. The date of commercial operations may also change. Instead of December 21st, the metro may start on December 20th. However, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has already stated that the metro will be inaugurated on December 21st at the Khajuraho Convention Center. Prior to this, discussions are underway between the BJP organization, the government, and officials regarding the commercial operation program.

The traffic police has issued an advisory regarding major route diversions due to the construction work of the second phase of the metro project. Under the second phase, girder launching will be done from Karond intersection to CIAE campus via Lambakheda Road (Bairsia Road). To ensure smooth execution of the work, traffic restrictions will be in force from 11 pm to 6 am daily from November 24 to December 4.
